Gabriel é um jovem adulto de 34 anos com deficiencia auditiva severa. Se chama severe sensorineural hearing loss, é um tipo de deficiência onde as células da cóclea morrem antes da hora.

 

Há 5 anos atrás o ouvido dele era igual ao de alguém com 95 anos.

 

Gabriel sempre teve dificuldades na escola (por não escutar, acabou se tornando autodidata), sempre lhe foi dito que era sua dificuldade era falta de atenção e não uma deficiência física.

 

Aos 21 anos, não conformado por não entender as coisas ditas ele foi procurar cuidados medicos. Tarde demais, por falta de estímulos, até o nervo auditivo já estava sendo atrofiado.

 

O aparelho auditivo estimula o nervo auditivo, ajudando na audição. O aparelho eleva os sons nas frequencia que ele escuta , o que me faz com que ele consiga se comunicar.

 

Seu aparelho atual tem 12 anos de uso, e é totalmente inadequado para sua perda auditiva que é severa. Fazendo com hoje ele escute apenas 19% com aparelhos.

 

Gabriel é um profissional qualificado na sua área, TI, mas hoje perdendo oportunidades por não ouvir.

 

Gabriel também está passando por algumas outras dificuldades, como por exemplo, estar morando em um carro há 9 meses. Contudo essas dificuldade podem ser sanadas assim que ele puder ter acesso ao aparelho auditivo necessário e então trabalhar em tempo integral.

Gabriel is a young adult, 34 years old, that suffers from severe sensorineural hearing loss, which is a deficiency that causes the coleção cells to die sooner than they should.

 

Due to that disease, 5 years ago his hearing was like a 95 years old person.

 

Gabriel always had a heard time learning at school (as he was unable to hear, and had to teach himself throughout school time). He was told that his poor performance at school was due to lack of attention and not a physical deficiency.

 

At age 21, Gabriel realized that his difficult hearing others was something more serious and looked for medical assistance for the first time. It was too late to recover his hearing capacity and due to lack of stimuli, even the auditory nerve was already being atrophied.

 

The hearing aid stimulates the auditory nerve, helping with hearing. The device raises the sounds in the frequencies he hears, which makes him able to communicate.

 

His current hearing aid is 12 years old, and is totally unsuitable for his hearing loss, which is severe. As of today he only hears 19% with the current device.

 

Gabriel is a qualified professional in his area, IT, but today he misses out on opportunities for not being able to fully communicate .

 

He is also experiencing some other difficulties, such as having been living in a car for 9 months. However, these difficulties can be solved as soon as he can access the necessary hearing aid and then work full time.
